It's actually Sunday!!!! I have done it, I have written a SupercarSunday on an actual Sunday!
This weeks supercar is a McLaren 720S. McLaren is a very successful British racing team that was founded by New Zealander Bruce Mclaren in 1963. They are most famous for their participation in Formula 1, but have been very successful in other race series like the Indy 500 and the Can-Am. Although McLaren have been making race cars since 1963, their venture into production vehicles only began in 1992 with the McLaren F1, one of the most special cars on the road. McLaren had a partnership with Mercedes to build the Mercedes SLR McLaren, one of my favourite cars of all time. McLaren have recently started trying to make it as a big brand in the supercar world competing with the likes of Ferrari and Lamborghini by producing a large selection of production supercars rather than one car per 15 years. It's working apart from the odd fiery hiccup, which is fairly common in the supercar world when trying to push the laws of physics to their limits.
Now for the actual car, the 720S is fast, sleek and stylish. It leaves it's price competitors in the dust. 0-60 times, top speed, price, suicide doors absolutely everything else, in fact its so much better its unfair. I think the main reason for this is the fact that McLaren's have been tarred with the 'fire' brush, which is actually good for the consumer as it has driven the prices down making the 720S very affordable for the performance. You can pick a second-hand one up for under £150K, considering this is about the same as an R8, which should be in competition with the with the lower tier McLaren, the Mclaren 650S.
Get ready for the figures:
0-60 in 2.8 Seconds
710 BHP
568lbs/ft
Top Speed 212MPH
All of that for £150K, and you haven't bought one yet? I would but I still can't afford the bluddy thing, it would need to come down in price by 10,000% for me to be able to buy one.
