I have typed this question into Bing a couple of times, now I know what you are thinking "why Bing?", it's because Google's overrated, get your head out of your bum and smell the web browsing roses. Anyway enough rambling and lets get back to the question, why do petrolheads also like watches?
A lot of similarities can be drawn between cars and watches. Cars and watches are both mechanical pieces of art. You can appreciate them both for their internals, the movement in the watch and the engine in the car are specific to every model. The more you pay for the piece the more complicated the internals are. The outside of the car or the watches beauty is in the eye of the beholder, there is and will never be a one size fits all on the way they look. You can pay a smaller amount for a car or a watch, but will be less blown away with how it looks, it will look more generic and common. The more you pay does not necessarily correlate with it looking better, as I have said beauty is in the eye in the beholder.
The Grand Tour trio are well known for wearing watches over the years. My favourite of his watches is the Rolex Milgauss.
Hammond likes to wear more aero-inspired watches, my favourite of his being the Breitling Navitimer.
Jeremy is famous for wearing Omega's and has said that Omega can pay him $50,000 for him to stop wearing them, as he believes he makes the brand less cool. I wonder if they will pay him.
The problem with buying cars and watches is that you can convince yourself that it is an investment, you can't actually do this with many other products. While some cars and especially watches can make you money or at least hold their value, it is a dangerous game to play. I will still continue to strive to get a nice watch and a nice car even if they do not make financial sense.
